Does IAC/InterActiveCorp Splitting Into 5 Companies Advance the Diller-Malone Story?

I vote yes.

Why? Because the proposed spinoffs simplify a needlessly complex structure. Even if it means nothing more than boosting the value of IAC/InterActiveCorp's current bundle of assets, John Malone (read: Liberty shareholders) stand to benefit.

Yet my hunch is that this will all somehow aid in Malone's desire to unload IAC assets or takeover others, such as Home Shopping Network. I don't know exactly how this will happen. But I trust Malone and his management team, as you read me post on the Diller-Malone dance barely 10 days ago.

The linked Bloomberg report quotes Liberty Media's Greg Maffei saying Malone/Liberty didn't instigate the spinoffs. They didn't need to.

My hunch is that the Diller-Malone dance includes Barry hearing footsteps.

That comes with the other guy owning nearly 60% of your company.
