Reaching the midpoint of a shortened holiday week here in the US, this is a good time to post the following:
- I received an email on my post yesterday about having an emergency fund consisting of three-to-six months' worth of expenses. I really can't add anything to my post. And "personal finance" isn't something I'm particularly good at explaining and is beyond the stock-picking scope of Controlled Greed. (Though I'm guilty of stretching that definition big time!) There are loads of personal finance blogs around, and I'm no expert on which ones are best. But Free Money Finance and The Simple Dollar are two I enjoy reading. That's not to say I agree with everything on those sites, yet they are a great place to start finding information.
- George over at Fat Pitch Financials has been posting some really interesting, in-depth articles on individual chapters of Mohnish Pabrai's book, Mosaic: Perspectives on Investing
. Here's George's take on Chapter 13, discussing the concept of "Latticework" -- the worldly wisdom that comes from an interdisciplinary collection of mental models. I don't know if George is "live blogging" the book, but it's great stuff and could be a great way to kill some time, or feed your mind, over the July 4th holiday.
- Geoff of Gannon on Investing hasn't been posting much lately. I don't know why and I hope it's just a case of having other fun stuff going on in his life. But earlier today I noticed he put up a few posts, including a very thoughtful one on blogging. Read it if you're a blogger. And read it twice if you're thinking about starting a blog. Geoff is a thoughtful, considerate guy and his experiences with blogging will sound familiar or sensible to any reasonable person. It sounds like (from the end of his post) he'll have more to say about blogging in the future. Also, his post inspires me to give my thoughts on the subject at some point. Just not now. :-)
My hunch is most of my readers are familiar with the above blogs. Check them out if by chance you aren't.
