Jerry Flint on Sharing the Blame for the Detroit Mess

Jerry Flint has been covering the auto industry since the late 1950s. That doesn't automatically make him right. But his wealth of experience covering the field makes his opinions worthwhile reading.

Flint's new Forbes column is about the Big 3 -- and there's plenty of blame to go around for their sad shape:

The domestic car industry should never have ignored passenger cars as it did, should never have signed those contracts with the UAW, should have fought harder with the government against bad policies and should have done a better job of gaining favor with politicians, as the oil and defense industries do.
